How Important is Solitude for Thriving?

In this era, one of the biggest complaints by workers is too much on their plate. They have too many meetings, too much collaboration, and too many emails. If you are in an organization that is laying off workers, everyone else is going to have even more on their plate.

We worry so much about the future. Kali Kavara, a healer gives a short bit of advice:

Stop fighting yourself and your future
Release all resistance
Drop into the eternal now
Delight in the peace
Attainable through surrender

This may be a little too airy fairy for you, but there is wisdom in slowing down the mad pace for a few minutes. Each morning, first thing, I sit and meditate for 20 minutes. It is a method to separate who you are from everything that is going on in your world.

When you get up and hop right into your duties, you become your duties. It becomes difficult to separate yourself from what you do. You are not necessarily what you do although it might be your purpose and why you are here, if you are lucky.

Understand how you are flowing through your life as a being and along the way there are lots of adventures and obligations. If you stay reminded that you are more important than what you do, you will have a different perspective.

Solitude is a Gift

We need solitude in our lives whether it be a hike, recreation time, reading, or doing nothing. Warren Buffet said “Doing Nothing Can Be Very Intelligent Behavior”. Many top business people and leaders spend an hour or more reading. They continue to learn to keep their minds active and to gain better perspective about what they do.

One of the biggest desires for many workers surveyed is free time. They rate it higher than children and promotions. A way to get some free time each day is to sit in a quiet place and just think about your life and the role you play in other people’s lives.

If you keep seeing yourself as separate from all your obligations you will have a better feeling for who you are. Thriving is a combination of feelings that involve work, your personal life, your health, your finances, and confidence about your future. Peaceful moments every day will help battle overwhelm.

As a Thriving Worker Consultant, I can engage in conversations with employers on how to begin the process of helping workers thrive and reach peak performance. It begins with a conversation to see how far an organization is willing to go to change the culture for workers.

Great practices for daily living can be learned with the Markap Series of Books. If your organization would like live presentations or Zoom meetings, they can be arranged for small to large groups.
