The Thriving Worker Health and Wellbeing Routine

Health and wellbeing are the result of a practice. The practice can include many ingredients and are part of a daily routine that is a priority. People that are healthy regard their wellbeing as a top priority and make it a part of their day, not the last thing on their list.

People that feel their health comes after their obligations can sink into a downward spiral of illness, pain, and lost productivity. Top or peak performances require peak mental and physical capabilities and vibrant vitality.

The Crucial Elements of Health

Health consists of nutrition, exercise, relaxation, good sleep, and a calm nervous system. Lacking any of these qualities, our system is probably flooded with cortisol and our brain waves might reside in the anxiety state. These two factors lead to deteriorating health, pain, and disease.

Wellbeing is not only good health, but a good mental or psychological outlook. The person wellbeing is optimistic, generous, empathetic, nurturing, creative, and highly productive. They have an attitude about life that says a person should take care of himself first before he starts taking care of others or his obligations. He has an awareness that he is most effective if he has the right disposition.

A person that prioritizes health feels connected to his body, Nature, and mankind. He realizes his body is a gift and health is the way to show appreciation for this gift. He is aware that neglect of the gift is to separate himself from Nature and all living things. You cannot assume you will be alright by neglecting your health any more than you think your car can run without oil.

Starting the Day with the Right Routines

A healthy routine might start the morning with a quick 20-minute mediation or exercise. Both recognize that our personal wellbeing comes before our obligations. A spiritual practice runs hand in hand with feeling at ease in the world.

Healthy food maintains healthy weight, and nothing leads to disease and pain faster than being overweight. Weight issues can lead to diabetes, heart issues, joint pain, and deteriorating muscles. Being overweight usually runs with not exercising. The body needs exercise to flush inflammation and restore healthy fluids. When muscle stops absorbing glucose from our diet, all the carbohydrates go to fat storage. Exercise keeps the muscles absorbing glucose.

Burnout is certainly the antithesis of wellbeing. We have to understand our limits when we face overwhelm. Good healthy practices can help us absorb more pressure from responsibility. When I was managing people, I would often have a stressful day. As soon as work was over, I drove a few miles to a green strip that ran along the roadway to the ocean and would run 5 miles. On real bad days, I would run 10 miles. This calmed my nervous system and prepared me for the next day.

Sanjay Goopta, the medical adviser for CNN said his health was more important than his obligations. At lunch he would swim every day and he would exercise instead of going to meetings if the choice had to be made. Our wellbeing must be our first choice.

As a Thriving Worker Consultant, I can engage in conversations with employers on how to begin the process of helping workers thrive and reach peak performance. It begins with a conversation to see how far an organization is willing to go to change the culture for workers.

Great practices for daily living can be learned with the Markap Series of Books. If your organization would like live presentations or Zoom meetings, they can be arranged for small to large groups.
