Fitness Changes Your Life

Fitness Changes Your Life in many ways. It is healthy, it makes you more recreation capable, you look better, and it may be the key to why you are here.

The human body needs several things to thrive in health, but nutrition and exercise are basic. Eating the right foods supplies the cells with the nutrition they need to do their job and they need a lot of nutrients. Exercise drains inflammation and replaces with boosting chemicals.

The Body Needs Muscle Maintenance

The body needs to maintain muscle because as we age, muscle mass declines. Women can often prolong osteoporosis with muscle building. We can defer breaking bones from falls or accidents with good muscle structure. Muscle absorbs glucose through receptors otherwise a lack of muscle building causes glucose (carbohydrates) to go to fat and may precede disease (diabetes, heart attacks, strokes).

The most important reason for fitness is lifestyle. The fit person enjoys their body. They usually feel a connection with Nature. They get to experience many fun adventures because they are fit enough to explore. They may be addicted to health which is a good thing.

Taking Fitness to Another Level

Fitness is foundational for those who exercise and feel it is why they are here. We are not here alone for exercise, but if you find a recreation, sport or adventure that involves fitness, it may be why you are here. Extreme athletes, professional athletes, and amateur athletes all have lives that revolve around or prioritize fitness.

Fitness allows extreme athletes to move to a higher plain in which they seek feelings of bliss. This is a connection with Nature and all things in the Universe. This state is frequently called “flow”. I am not an extreme athlete, but I look for flow in all activities. It is also the highest state of creativity and most would say peak enjoyment of anything in which they are accomplished.

Getting into Flow

As we engage in an exercise in which we have mastered the mechanics and are fit enough to enjoy, our pre-frontal cortex can shut down and allow our subconscious to guide our movement. Our activity is supported by dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins. We are operating without thinking and personal judgement or criticism. It is the realm of peak performance.

If you seek peak performance in any realm of your life, speaking, song writing, writing, teaching, research, or exercise, you will be engaging in your purpose and the reason you feel you are here. Peak performance is a rewarding state. We don’t have to be great to reach our own peak performance, just a little better than we were in the past or yesterday.

Steven Kotler in his book The Rise of Superman about extreme athletes says we only have to improve our performance by 4% to get into flow and experience all the chemicals of peak performance and bliss. The fact the brain would support us with neurotransmitters and hormones for this state is an indication we were meant to experience it.

Fitness can bring a little or a lot into our lives. A lifestyle of fitness is a good step toward self-actualization.
