How to Create Work Life Balance

Business is struggling with How to Create Work Life Balance so workers don’t burn out or get tired of their routine and leave for another company. Workers struggle with how to feel productive and happy.

What is the basis for feeling a loss of work life balance? Most workers will immediately say not enough free time. Others point to feeling a lack of purpose in their work and that they feel far from being engaged in the reason they are here.

We Seek Meaning

Both issues point to the difficulty of finding meaning. We want to live purposeful lives in which we feel we understand why we are here. We want to feel that our life has purpose and we are contributing to the betterment of others.

Free time and happiness are both issues that arise. More than money, workers are looking for purposeful lives. They want to work and make a difference. They want to enjoy relationships which include family and friends. They want to feel they have opportunities to make more money but also to make a bigger contribution and have more discretion over their time.

Their are three good words that have importance:

Passion

Time Management

Happiness

When we are passionate about our work or our lives, the work life balance issues seems to disappear. A passionate worker does not worry about working long hours. Their work is who they are. It is the reason they are here. It gives them purpose. This solves a whole list of complaints.

Time Management is Always the Start

Time management is how we structure our day so we get to engage in our passions. It is important to schedule our most meaningful work during our most energetic time periods. Creativity is a selfish creature that flourishes when we have a free mind and no interruptions to solve problems or create important work. Artists and writers know how to schedule creative time.

Happiness is a biological state that results from our brain stimulating the hormones and neurotransmitters. Happiness has not been different since the beginning of man although material goods have changed. Happiness is learning, physical exertion, caring, protecting, and contributing. These are the basis of dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins. They are all you need to know about happiness.

We go through great lengths to work for and buy what we think happiness means. The process is as simple as it has ever been. Nature (the brain) wants us to survive and multiply. It wants us to eat, procreate, risk, take on challenges, and build community. We are like most species except we have extra brains to evaluate risk and enjoy emotions.

Gaining our Happiness and Purpose

Happiness and purpose can be scheduled each day. Free time has less meaning when we are engaging in activities and behaviors that have meaning to us. If our passion is recreation or exercise, we do need time to engage and maybe need the support of others.

If you can list your important values and activities in which you want to engage to feel purposeful, you have a start. Then compare them to your current life and evaluate what has to change. Make the changes or get the support to make your life more meaningful. If it can’t be done today, set the goal and the timelines. Set the plan in motion. You will immediately start stimulating the happiness chemicals you seek.

Life is less complicated when we engage in the right thoughts, intentions and behaviors. This puts us in line with Nature’s intentions and her intentions are what shape happiness in the long run. We need to improve who we are to make a bigger contribution. Self-actualizing is the contribution we need to make to others. It is the reason we are here.
