Making Exercise a Lifestyle Focus Point is one way to get happiness, fulfillment, and gratitude into your day. Exercise becomes autotelic in that exercisers do it just for the exercise without accounting for all the benefits.
It takes time to develop the skills and get the body acclimated to strenuous exercise, but then it becomes a joy each time. Afterward there is a feeling of euphoria and pride. My bike rides fulfill many goals. I love to be outdoors. I love to work my body. I know I am maintaining and building strength. I love to progress.
I plan my exercises for every day I have an opening. I focus on the nutrition that will help me exercise and recover. I watch my weight because leaner means more oxygen uptake. I consider how to get better and watch videos on skill building.
It is a break from the pressure of reaching career and financial goals. This can be the free time most people desperately seek. When you are engaged in exercise, you may get into a state of flow. In flow, you are rising just above your capabilities to experience the next level of exertion or maybe skill. Your brain pumps dopamine and your body supplies endorphin. It is a state of bliss.
Exercise is a discipline. Research has shown that one “key habit” may change all your habits. It may keep you from smoking or drinking alcohol in excess or over eating. It may lead to charging less on your credit cards or engaging in negative behaviors. It lifts your spirit and creates a spiritual connection with your body and maybe Nature.
Exercise will help you maintain health, feel better, and promote longevity. Its like putting money in the bank to save for a rainy day that may never come because you are always on top of your game.
