The Important Part of Time Management

Most people struggle with getting the important “to do’s” into their day. What are the tasks that have to be completed and what can be deferred to another day? Often, the most important consideration is left out.

Most workers now complain about overwhelm. It leads to job dissatisfaction and burn out. More people are considering job changes within two or three years. This is partly the fault of employers. They want fewer workers to accomplish more. They load everyone’s plate.

What is important for everyone is self-preservation. What would make each day meaningful and not just productive. Productivity does not always align with what a worker wants from life. Productivity may suit the employer but be far from what the worker’s expectations of a meaningful life. Hence, he is looking for something else to do.

Creating Meaning in Your Day

Creating meaning in each day is our own responsibility. Do we know what would make our day meaningful? Most workers surveyed have cried out for more free time. What is free time? Is it time to sit and contemplate life? Is it recreation or exercise time? Is it time to pursue passions like writing, painting, or hobbies? Is it family time?

It is important to include a time block for what is important in your life in your day. It may be necessary to get support. Employers want to retain good workers. They spend a lot of time discussing what that takes. They usually think more money. But many workers have said free time is more important than money and take jobs with less pay and more opportunities.

Do you want time to learn new skills or training for new positions? Would you want on the job training or the opportunity to attend online schooling? Many workers surveyed said they didn’t know if the could learn new technologies and weren’t sure they wanted to.

Burn out is certain these days if you don’t have a passion for what you are doing. Passions need constant feeding and the opportunity to engage. What do you have to do in order to get your passions included in your day? This is the importance of time management.
