Contribution is a Path to Happiness

Contribution is a Path to Happiness for several reasons and is the motivation to work on practices that make us happy. Contribution usually means we are giving one of our best gifts or the fruit of our best work to others.

This means we are actively working on something to be more influential. Contributing is influencing in that we are seeking alignment with what we think or do. If we have this dedication to our contribution we are probably growing our abilities.

Excite the Brain

These are the type of behaviors the brain loves. The brain is in charge of running our body systems in a fashion that is largely subconscious to us, but thrives when we consciously attempt to improve who we are and how we feel.

Included in our process of growth is the challenge to learn more and the risk we won’t be successful. When we try to learn or improve, their is the chance we cannot. This risk and challenge is what the brain has been urging on our species from the beginning and we are champions.

The Happiness Chemicals

The brain throws in its support with dopamine to encourage our continued effort. It adds serotonin for successful efforts as we take pride in our accomplishment. Oxytocin is our reward for protecting and helping others. Endorphins come into play when we stress our body to improve. We can be happy many times a day with the right behaviors.

Good time management is important to ensure we have the hours necessary to improve what we know and build our contribution. Making non-essential activities and to do lists secondary becomes obvious when compared to the value of the essential tasks to contribute.

If we find we are not in mental or emotionally good states, we might compare our daily activities to those outlined above to contribute and personally grow. They are the secret to happiness and greater productivity. Those who are rewarded most are those making the biggest contribution.
