Making the Right Every Day Choices

When we rise in the morning our day may already be programmed or we might have the opportunity for Making the Right Every Day Choices. Are we in charge of the direction in which we are traveling?

I like the saying: Rich people have money, Wealthy people have time. Sometimes people have neither money nor time. They do not have control of their lives. They are at the effect of the environment. We can all get carried away with living day to day to make ends meet.

Taking Control of Our Time

Taking control of our destiny begins with managing our time to make choices that are beneficial to our future. We have several areas that are important to most people. Health should be a priority. Relationships are important for happiness and success. Learning is necessary for growth and vitality. Relaxation is necessary for emotional and mental health.

  • Health
  • Relationships
  • Learning
  • Relaxation

There are other priorities but these four can place us in great control of our time and our daily outcomes. At the end of each day, we want to be able to say, that was a good day. We have to work backward and design our day so we can make that statement at the end.

The most effective way is to work in time blocks. Making the most important time blocks first or when we are at peak energy is the most effective way to have a productive or purposeful day. Our time allocation decides how purposeful or how meaningful our time will be spent.

De-Prioritizing To Do Lists

There are so many obligations, to do lists, and emails that over our lifetime will have little to do with our happiness or effectiveness. In our final days, we won’t give ourselves much credit for always having completed our to do lists.

What will get our self-approval was how meaningful we made each day. What will have meaning is the amount of love, contribution, and blissful experiences we enjoyed. Most people have told their hospice caregivers in their final days they spend too much time at work and not enough time enjoying life.

This is a matter of time allocation and priorities as well as living our values. What do we value? Do we cherish independence? Do we love to learn and grow? Do we love all the factors of health including eating and exercise? Do we love our mates, children and friends? Do we allocate time in each day to take care of our priorities?
