How Lifestyle and Thriving Work Together

how thriving and lifestyle work together

Thriving is not just about the work environment. It is very comprehensive and Lifestyle and Thriving Must Work Together. Thriving is a soul state that encompasses everything about a person’s life.

Where should a person begin that wants to thrive? Thriving is having a blissful grateful attitude about one’s life. Thriving means that there are enough elements in a person’s life to make them feel blessed. The person may have a few activities with which they identify as their purpose and everything else is a lesser priority. The person might expect that several aspects of their life have to be satisfying for them to be thriving.

Thriving is Engaging in Activities that Can Be Measured Objectively and Subjectively

We look and measure certain aspects of our life to judge whether they are living up to our expectations. We might value family, health, security, recreation, friends, and careers. The behaviors that determine happiness are learning, creating, contributing, caring, protecting, and exercising to name a few.

The behaviors that determine happiness are in our DNA. They stimulate hormones and neurotransmitters that have existed with man from the start. They are designed by Nature to induce us to engage in activities that support surviving and thriving. One would not think that we need to be induced to eat and have sex, but we do or we would do neither.

Pursuing the Happiness Brain Chemicals that Support Our Goals

The hormones and neurotransmitters Nature utilizes are dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins. We become slaves to these drivers with positive or negative behaviors. Both will stimulate them in our brain. While learning, caring, and exercise are positive, gambling, overeating, drugs, shopping, and hostility can also stimulate happiness brain chemicals. They all stimulate feelings we might find addicting.

Negative behaviors do not lead to thriving. They lead to forms of self-destruction that take a person down the rabbit hole to poor health, depression, anger, ruined finances, and difficulty in life. Positive behaviors lead a person to self-actualization and a feeling life is blissful.

Mixing the positive behaviors with the goals of family, health, security, recreation, friends, and careers lead a person to daily progress toward worthwhile goals. Happiness is more sustainable as a process than reaching goals and retiring. When people have finished their careers and retire to a life that is no longer demanding, they often have trouble finding their way and their identity.

Leading a lifestyle that is challenging and has risks that create personal growth is the most fulfilling path at anytime in our lives. If we have a thriving lifestyle, we are going to be happier at work and in our personal lives. If we understand what is important to us and which behaviors create growth, we will make decisions that serve us.
