What Are Good Daily Habits for Success

what are habits that successful people have

I find a good routine in the morning begins every day on a positive note. Your subconscious registers your intentions and behavior as self-actualizing which means you could be getting a nice dose of dopamine to start every day.

A good routine is “me” time and part of delivering the work/life balance everyone seems to pursue. With a good routine in the morning and then time management that includes time blocks for the most important forward moving activities during the day, you feel purposeful.

I start with boiling water for tea and putting on the coffee pot. While the tea is boiling, I do 5 easy stretches which include putting my palms flat on the floor and holding it. I do 5 easy dumbbell exercises which work my shoulders and arms with light weights. If my tea finishes first, I pour it and continue my little exercises. They are a routine I don’t think about anymore, but build self esteem because I am doing something very positive.

Then I take my tea to my desk and sit to meditate for 20 minutes. When I am finished my tea has cooled which I drink before having coffee. I calm my nerves in meditation and have peace before I begin my work and worry for the day. I often picture how I will slide through all the week’s challenges. It has become so important to me, I rarely miss. After tea and coffee I have had my first 20 ounces of water on the way to drink 80 to 100 ounces for the day.

Then I do my writing and podcasting. This is my creative work for the day and my work of contribution that is one of my main life goals. Afterwards, I am going to teach, coach or go on an exercise of biking or climbing stairs at the beach. Most of my days look similar.

A Positive Self Serving Start to the Day is Like a Vaccination Against What Will Come

Regardless of what might be occurring in the world or what adversity may be coming my way, I have started off solid with my personal and work life fulfillment. I do not read news before I have finished my important activities. My perspective is positive and optimistic. I have the discipline to achieve goals because I can stick to a routine that is positive.

What routines could you include in your morning and to feel you are in charge of your life and getting balance with both your personal and work life? Here are some daily habits successful people share. You might already engage in some or borrow a few and get started.

  • Writing in a journal
  • Stepping back from technology
  • Saying “yes”
  • Being active listeners
  • Being empathetic
  • Maintaining organization
  • Focusing on details
  • Practicing self-reflection

Other habits include:

  • Waking up early
  • Doing a brief digital detox
  • Starting your day with calming music
  • Having a morning workout routine
  • Eating a healthy breakfast
  • Meditating
  • Keeping a daily journal

Some habits we can exercise during the day without losing sight of other obligations. I am always working on maintaining my weight or losing weight. As an exerciser, less weight means more agility and better oxygen uptake. I weigh myself every morning and after seeing the results reflect on how the previous day’s diet hurt or helped my efforts. I then calculate whether I will do the diet again or eliminate something. This is an ongoing contest I have with myself that is fun.

Reading is a Luxury That Successful People Indulge In

I like to read for a while each day. This is a luxury, but the busiest people in the world have included reading for at least an hour a day in their routine. Warren Bufftet says he reads for several hours a day. Bill Gates and Barack Obama include reading an hour a day. Reading excites the brain and calms the nervous system. It builds neurons if the material requires learning. It improves memory. It is fun and the material learned accumulates to make you a wiser person.

During the day, I make a point of being kind to people. I am empathetic when people tell me about something going on in their lives. I reach out to family and friends with short contacts which are usually texts. I try to make my connection with customers rewarding for them. After most of my contacts with students or customers, I feel I have contributed to their lives.

At the end of every day, I like to say, that was a good day. What could you include in your days so that you could say the same every day. The minutes of special attention in our lives add up to lives that feel worthwhile. The minutes of special attention give us focus so that our life is not just a blur. The positive activities accumulate to make us better each year.

As a Thriving Worker Consultant, I can engage in conversations with employers on how to begin the process of helping workers thrive and reach peak performance. It begins with a conversation to see how far an organization is willing to go to change the culture for workers.
