What is a Healthy Lifestyle should be a question every body asks and answers. Considering the benefits of living in health and the disadvantages that accrue from not it is amazing there would be a dichotomy.

Good health begins with normal weight. The Body Mass Index calculator categorizes people by normal, overweight and obese. Being under 25 is normal and where health begins. Considering 70% of the people in the U.S. are overweight and 40% obese, we have to wonder where we went wrong.

Farm life was hard but the diet was natural. People ate products they raised and grew in good soils and on grass. All the nutrients of the earth flowed through their veins. We have distanced ourselves from the earth.

Finding the Best Diet

The diet voted most healthy every year, the Mediterranean, adheres to mostly natural products. It emphasizes fish, vegetables and fruit, whole grains, plus a lot of natural fats. Fat is 50% of the diet while protein is 20% to 30% and carbohydrates are only 10% +.

We have over loaded our diets with carbohydrates and most of them are harmful and cause weight increases. These carbs are sugar and white bread and all the products in which they are incorporated. Good health practices would start with eliminating both.

After healthy eating, exercise is Nature’s second plan for keeping bodies healthy. Exercise causes the circulation of fluids and elimination of inflammation. It promotes the absorption of glucose in the muscles and promotes strength and stamina. Early man collected large prey by chasing them until they rolled over. We have the innate ability to run for a few days.

Drinking water is basic. We are 70% water when hydrated. All our systems work efficiently when we are properly hydrated. When we are not, the digestion searches food for water. Hunger is often our body calling out for water. We should drink half our body weight in water ounces but try for 100 oz and a gallon.

Reducing Stress is a Healthy Practice

Reducing stress and sleeping well are important. Stress and lack of sleep stimulates cortisol, a harmful chemical that causes errant behaviors. In the animal kingdom, stress is intended to last a few minutes while animals are being chased or chasing. After that, it is planned that we return to normal. Stress reducing practices are important for maintaining homeostasis.

Health becomes a daily practice and a priority. It becomes a lifestyle. People that are healthy have a passion for health. They try to engage the best practices and avoid the negative ones. The rewards are tremendous. Healthy people feel good and are more likely to treat others well. They are more likely to have ambitious goals and enjoy their endeavors. Their attitude is likely to be that life is good and not out to get them. Health is spiritual.
