Get Engaged in Growth to Move Forward

get engaged in growth to move forward

How often do we feel we are in a rut or that things are not moving fast enough? The fact so many people are quiet quitting or changing jobs each three years says there is dissatisfaction with the pace of things. It says life is not meeting our expectations beginning with work.

There is one aspect we are free to change and can move as fast as we want. That aspect is personal growth. We can have personal growth as a circle within a circle. The outside circle is what is happening to our lives in work and personal relationships. The inside circle is how we are changing while still engaged in our daily obligations.

How many ways can you improve your personal circumstances. Could you eat a little cleaner. Drink less alcohol. Lose weight. Begin a meditative practice. Increase your amount of exercise. Read for an hour every day. Lift dumb bells and use stretch bands at home. These are all quality of life enhancing. If you want to feel and perform better, these are the practices where you start.

What Contribution is Your Life Making?

The next area where you find your purpose is your level of contribution to the world. We increase our contribution first by becoming a better human specimen as outlined by the just listed practices. This has an effect on all our circles. Secondly, we consider how all our activities make the world a better place.

We have family and friends to whom we can be supportive, encouraging, and good companions. We have a work organization that wants everyone to contribute to the Mission. What can we do in our capacity to show the Organization we are in alignment and willing to share the responsibility of improving its performance and competitiveness.

There is a planet we live on populated by 8 billion people. Even we are not overtly engaged in activities that improve both, there are thoughts and behaviors we demonstrate every day that make an impact like a butterfly flapping its wings. Think, kindness, empathy, and patience. The improvement of our kindness, empathy, and patience will not only pay it forward, but be exemplary to those around us.

Have We Found Our Purpose?

We all have a purpose. What is it that will develop our potential to afford the biggest contribution possible? What is it we could learn or engage in that feels purposeful to us and explains why we are here? It may be kindness and support to our family. It might be loyalty and support for our organization. It might be pursuing a passion that takes us to our highest potential.

We contribute when we have skills that can benefit others. Therefore, if our work is not building our skills, we must build them independent of our work. As a senior I have two minor roles that interface with others. I am a surfing instructor. I am continuously evaluating how I make the process easier for new students.

I am a thriving worker consultant. I am constantly looking for information and insights on how I can help other people thrive. At the moment, these are my purpose. I have my personal goals of continuously becoming healthier, more fit, more appreciative, and building gratitude. I treasure my relationships and try to both maintain and build them.

I have a belief in God that is reflected most in how I treat my body, others, and connect with Nature. Every cell in our body has the purpose of making the body better, This is a good microcosm of how the Universe should work and does work. How many forces of Nature support the life on earth? Nature gifts us with tools, and those who can use them to adapt, will thrive.

Don’t develop miopic vision which means lacking imagination by just looking at a few things in your life that are not moving fast enough. Create habits, behaviors, and attitudes that make life move faster as a circle within a circle and will manifest outward into the slower moving aspects you want to influence.

As a Thriving Worker Consultant, I can engage in conversations with employers on how to begin the process of helping workers thrive and reach peak performance. It begins with a conversation to see how far an organization is willing to go to change the culture for workers.

Great practices for daily living can be learned with the Markap Series of Books. If your organization would like live presentations or Zoom meetings, they can be arranged for small to large groups.
